Manchester Terrier 15/01/2021
Unfortunately, but inevitably the greatest Terrier show in the world, National Terrier succumbed to the virus and its restrictions, cancelled, so guess it will be 2022 before the next one.
The BBC has launched a new program, Pooch Perfect, which is a dog groomers version of The Bake Off. It is on a Thursday evening, even though the Manchesters require very little grooming to keep them in shape, you may find this an interesting programme to watch. Other terrier breeds will appear in the coming weeks. It’s a fun programme and great to watch for the other breeds.
You will need to keep a keen eye on all the movement within the Group Championship shows and club show, Birmingham National has now moved to September and Belfast to October. Lots of breed club shows trying to jump on the back of Group Champs, as the calendar gets very congested towards the mid / end of the year.
It would be Manchester Champ Show weekend and we take the opportunity to look back firstly 5 years and secondly 15 years at results from this show.
5 years ago Mrs Patsy Hollings judged the breed (without CC’s) and found the following winners from a quality line up (34 entries). Best of Breed & BD , Walshaws Talanors Diamonds N’Dreams avec Janmark JW, RBD was Carters Ch Digelsa Declaration. Best Bitch was Peachams, Felree A Touch of Glam and RBB was Saxton & Dales, M Ch Rattustrap Top Totty JW shcm. Best pup was awarded to Oxleys, Digelsa D’Amour.
15 years ago Tom Johnstone was the judge and again no CCs on offer, with an entry of 20 with 7 absent, the following were his winners.Best of Breed and BB, was Mr A GOURLEY, Mr N & LEONARD Ch Gloryline Margaret Tudor With Shemal Aireworth, RBB, BROWN, E & ARUNDEL, A Browdel Beatrix Potter, who was also Best Puppy. Best Dog was Eaglespur Magic Timon at Coronaur, owned by Mrs Edwards and RBD went to Mr Garlands, Sophyla Secret Agent.
Looking back through the breed notes from 5 years ago (penned by Carol Dunford)….. “All the best for 2016 folks, sorry the notes have been slim but we have been decorating the spare bedroom, we had so many hiccups it was like a farce - the carpet did not fit and had to be re-ordered, and we ended up with 2 sets of curtains as the lady in the shop got mixed up with the order, and now we have a litter on - run off my feet is my only excuse
Well Boston saw Jill Peak judging with an entry of 13 with 2 absent
and she made the dog Mark and Jan`s Ch Talanors Diamonds n` Dreams
Avec Janmark JW BD and BOB, her RBD was Jane and Geaorgie`s Ch
Felfree Rocket ShCM. The BB was a new puppy out at just 6mths and a
week, for Mick, Digelsa D`Amour who was also BP, the RBB was Su
Smith`s Ch Simjest Kiara`s Candy Girl, well done all.
At Manchester with Patsy Hollings judging with an entry of 31 with
8 absent and she found her BD and BOB in a repeat of Boston -
Diamonds n Dreams, the RBD was Carter and Harrison`s Ch Digelsa
Declaration. The BB went to Mr Peacham`s Felfree Touch of Glam for
Manrio, with Estella, Phil and Bobby`s Multi Ch Rattustrap Top
Totty JW ShCM, well done again. The excellent result for the BP
Mick`s D`Amour, was that in the TGrp under judge Jill Peak she was
placed 2nd, exciting enough, but later we find that the Westie that
beat her went BPIS, what a good result and so good for our
breed.
Earlier at Taunton & DC under judge Bill Harris Bethany`s bitch
Marlablue in a Twirl went BOB, and Elaine Hose handling the bitch
pup for Wendy Heller went BP, well done there.
An Open show putting classes on for us is the London Airedale and
Fox Terrier Club who hold their shows at the hall at Merstham
Surrey, their show is on the 21st February and you just have time
to email Mrs Lee England for a schedule -
l.england@mypostoffice.co.uk.
At the Ashbourne CS show the judge was Jackie Ward and she made the
dog Mark and Jan`s Ch T. Diamonds n Dreams JW BOB, TGrp 1 and all
the way to Res BIS well done a super win.
Lastly Zoe`s bitch Luna aka Rollsbrook Moobeam has now passed her
Gold Good Citizens Award, and she has also won the last 3 classes
of Agility she has entered, and is also taking part in Rally O,
what a team, I am so impressed. Carol Dunford”
In
addition notes from 15 years ago, again from Carol …At Doncaster CS
judge Roger Wright, his BOB was the Hebb’s Sophyla Sterling Silver
at Bellbrock who went on to win Terrier Gp 2. His BP was the
Clifton`s Gloryline Annboleyn (Ch Brookstream Beamish x Aireworth
Tudor Venture of Gloryline) and she went one better and won the
Terrier P.Grp 1, well done to them both. I am told it was freezing
cold there and they stayed on to BIS.
At the other end of the country at the Truro & Dist CA at
Wadebrige with judge Sylvia Monahan the BOB was the Palmer’s Quixol
Misty Ivy at Egloshayle and she went on to Terrier Grp 3. The BP
was Anthony Arundel & Brown’s Browdel Beatrix Potter and she
also went Terrier P Grp 1, and having waited until 7.30pm in the
cold, it ended up - 3c, (that’s inside!) she went BPIS under Mavis
Moss, what a really great achievement. Not content with that,
Anthony had taken his Cocker and won gundog veteran and was Best
Veteran in show, a really good day out for him and his dogs and
kept the MT flag flying as well. It sounds like it was pretty
miserable and cold at both shows, not what MTs like at all. At our
local match night the new heating system was 12 hours out on the
clock so never came on for us all night, you could see your breath,
but in the kitchen we put the oven on and opened the door, but you
had to stand next to it to feel any warmth, I went home with feet
like blocks of ice so I am well impressed that our exhibitors had
stayed to the end in those conditions - hardy folk dog people. I am
sure you know, but its nice to report it anyway but MTs have fared
very well in the listings. The Top Terrier Brood Bitch and 5th all
breeds was the Clifton’s Aireworth Tudor Venture of Gloryline, not
only that but the Clifton’s are again the Top MT breeders and 3rd
in the Terrier Grp. The Top Terrier Stud Dog and 7th all breeds was
the Norris’ Ch Brookstream Beamish. This is the first time that MTs
have been at the top of both listings, many congratulations to both
breeders, they really have done our breed proud, one for the
history books, and help to keep our breed to the fore. Carol
Dunford”
Please get in touch and send any info to myself on the breed or dog talk in general, don’t be afraid to mail me with your personal stories, think everyone likes to listen to doggy chat, whilst we remain in these more confining times.
